Welcome

Gifted & Talented Support Services

2008-2009 School Year

Purpose: To ensure that M.S.A.D. 75 meets its legal ( Maine 's Chapter 104) and ethical obligations to students markedly ahead of peers in core academic subjects

Identification : At present, Maine law limits this group to 5% of total enrollment. For this reason, M.S.A.D. 75 typically selects fewer than 2% of students in each core subject. Identification is reviewed annually . In Grades K-3, the focus is on identifying needs rather than students.

Core Commitments :

•  Work at an appropriate level of challenge

•  Time to work with intellectual peers

•  Information and guidance regarding additional opportunities

Programming : Student needs are understood and matched to each school's resources through a collaborative planning process. Gifted & Talented (G/T) staff members are case managers, consultants, advocates, and facilitators of this process.
